Breaking: Governor Okorocha’s deputy Madumere is impeached!

The deputy governor of Imo, Eze Madumere, was in the afternoon of Monday, July 30, impeached by the state’s House of Assembly. It was learnt that 19 out of the 27 members took the decision to get him parking.

Channels Television reports that the speaker of the House, Acho Ihim, announced that the impeachment was as a result of the outcome of a report by a seven-man panel constituted by the chief judge of the state to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Madumere.

Part of the allegations included his alleged absence without reasons for a period of three months and a failure to perform constitutional duties like attending state executive and state security council meetings. He was also accused of failure to attend meetings with the governor and other government functionaries as well as an alleged concealment of felonious act in the United States. Note that this is the second deputy governor to be impeached under Rochas Okorocha.

The first to face such impeachment by the state House of Assembly was Jude Agbaso. Agbaso was replaced with Madumere. NAIJ.com also reported a major rift between Madumere and Governor Rochas Okorocha resulting from the ambition of the former to contest for governorship of the state in the forthcoming election.

The Imo state House of Assembly, on Tuesday, July 10, began the impeachment of Eze Madumere as political tension continues between him and Rochas Okorocha. In the heat of the impeachment process, Madumere dragged the Imo state chief judge, Justice Paschal Nnadi, the state House of Assembly and its speaker, Acho Ihim, to court. The deputy governor prayed the court to quash the planned impeachment initiated against him by the lawmakers.
